Simon stays -minimizes the amount of distraction in the crosswalk environment in order to focus the kids’ attention to the traffic light and prevent unsafe crossing.
More than 4000 kids in Israel every year arrive at the Emergency room due to accidents with a motorized vehicle involved, almost every week we are exposed to the headlines in the news (just a few of them on the bottom).
Today, all around the world, kids are distracted from many multiple sources, this makes the crosswalk environment more dangerous than ever.
We started to work on the project with the guidance of “Or Yarok”, that have spotlighted the school area as the main focus environment we want to target.
As part of the brainstorming process, our goal was to design and manufacture a physical device that will help to decrease fatality in the crosswalk environment, we chose the educational path in order to achieve better results in the long run.
The device, synced with the traffic light system – indicated that the red light is on, will produce a sound that will interact with the kid in order to convince him to play.
“Simon Stays” has four 40mm colored buttons, each producing a particular tone when it is pressed or activated by the user. A round in the game consists of the device lighting up one or more buttons in a random order, after which the player must reproduce that order by pressing the buttons. As the game progresses, the number of buttons to be pressed increases.
Driven by a raspberry pi, powered by a common power bank, the sound produced by Dayton Audio Exciter 24W 4 Ohm in order to produce the maximum out of 200x200x100mm shell.
“Simon Stays” is a simple product, our main challenges aren’t in the field of technology, as our product can be easily redesigned for mass production for decreasing prices to less than 50 USD per unit.
Regulation and certifications are the main challenges – in Israel, there is a delicate relationship between municipalities to the ministry of transportation regarding legislation and enforcement in the urban area that can cause procrastination in the regulation of our product into the crosswalk ecosystem.
Uber faced complex and diverged legal issues throughout every city they desired to begin operation, in order to make Simon Stays the next thing in the Pedestrian Safety, we would need to learn every legal ecosystem we wish to be part of.

We are in the final stages of our first mockup, our initial plan was testing the product in a real traffic light crosswalk environment by the end of April, due to the coronavirus, we found ourselves waiting for the parts and modules to get shipped to us so we can finalize the first mockup and test it.

In order to make Simon Stays the next big thing in the Road traffic safety, we would need to design and manufacture more units, and design new concepts in order to make a larger diversity of games in the different traffic lights and crosswalks.
In order to pass through the legal barriers, we would definitely need legal consultant services with expertise in Road traffic safety to advise on our next steps.
The products would need to pass the tests to get the required certifications in order to be installed as beta testing, as our product is planned to be at the front of the traffic safety for kids.
