About

VoluntHere is an app that allows young people to find volunteer places that fit their preferences and needs easily and quickly. You can get all the relevant information about these places in a concentrated and practical way and even set shifts and manage your schedule.

The Problem

As a high school and college students, we enjoy taking part in various volunteering activities that gives us a great sense of satisfaction and belonging to an organization or to a significant and greater cause. There is a wide variety of places to volunteer at, but from our, and many other student’s experiences it is not always easy to find a volunteering place that matches our preferences and needs as volunteers. For example, if we are not sure exactly where we want to volunteer and search Google for a relatively general type of volunteering, we will get a big amount of search results with lots of unnecessary or missing information, we will have a difficulty finding contact information and all of that without even mentioning the volunteer’s preferences such as their interests, hours they are available at, their skills and abilities and more. Such a cumbersome search process may result in many young people simply giving up the idea of volunteering completely. So, we thought about it and we came to the conclusion that doing good – shouldn’t be that complicated, and that’s how the idea behind VoluntHere was born.

Our Solution

After conducting many surveys and understanding the needs of the young volunteers, we decided to create a mobile app that makes all of the volunteer options conveniently accessible to their mobile. In this way we can provide volunteers with all the information they need and save them the long and exhausting process of finding a volunteer location, thus reducing the number of students giving up on the whole idea and encouraging this population to continue doing important social work. There are other platforms that offer volunteering opportunities in a similar way, but most are based on websites that do not function well on mobile or are targeting a different audience, for example, paid volunteering opportunities for organizations and companies. Our goal is to encourage the younger generation to continue volunteering and being socially active.

How does it work?

Our app makes all volunteering choices accessible to the student’s mobile, with filtering options such as location, volunteer type, required skills, age, and more, to help the volunteers find a place that fits them best, easily, and effectively. In addition, for each volunteer location, the app will contain relevant and practical information about the organization, important highlights, and contact details of the volunteer coordinators, and even a convenient option for scheduling shifts. To help encourage young volunteers to continue their positive work, we have also added the opportunity to monitor volunteer hours so that they can see their impact and contribution over time and even provide necessary information to educational institutions in case they need to stand up to different scholarships or the requirements of social engagement in the various high schools.

Our challenges

The key challenge we face is finding a person who will take the project forward and assist us with exposing it to the many nonprofits and volunteer places so that we will be able to receive information from them and to assist them in matching the best volunteers for them and coordinating the shifts. The project is a social project of utmost importance in our eyesight, and so it is very important for us to find a person who sees it the same way as well and would like to contribute to society by encouraging more people to do so.
